Juliet Stevenson, Anthony Minghella, Jude Law and David Threlfall in the studio after the recording

Jude Law stars in Anthony Minghella play on Radio 3

Jude Law appears on 成人论坛 Radio 3 on Saturday in a specially commissioned radio drama by Anthony Minghella as part of the station's Beckett centenary celebrations.

Jude Law is joined by Juliet Stevenson and David Threlfall in the play Eyes Down Looking, written, directed and introduced by Minghella, and broadcast in The Verb on Saturday 1 April at 10.15pm.

Law plays the role of The Son, Juliet Stevenson plays The Mother and David Threlfall is The Father in the play - inspired by Beckett - the story of a grieving father and son remembering their dead wife and mother.

To celebrate the centenary of Nobel prize-winning writer Samuel Beckett's birth, Radio 3 is broadcasting a season of Beckett-inspired programmes.

They include newly commissioned dramas by leading young playwrights as well as discussions of Beckett's work featuring Billie Whitelaw and Sir Peter Hall discussing Waiting for Godot in a special Night Waves programme.

Radio 3 also presents a Beckett Evening on Sunday 9 April.

It includes new productions of Krapp's Last Tape, starring Corin Redgrave, and Embers directed by Stephen Rea and featuring Michael Gambon, Sinead Cusack and Rupert Graves, and a new recording of Waiting for Godot on Sunday 16 April in Drama on 3.

Jude Law says of Minghella's new work: "It's a puzzle of words - a great excuse to sit and talk for a couple of hours.

"It's lovely working on something by a great writer who was inspired by a great writer."

Anthony Minghella says of the experience of recording the play: "Three of my favourite actors [Jude Law, Juliet Stevenson and David Threlfall] in a room, who agreed to this without having read my script - that's not bad!"

The play marks Minghella's return to 成人论坛 radio, where his early work included acclaimed plays such as Cigarettes and Chocolate (成人论坛 Radio 4).

Introducing his new work in The Verb, Minghella discusses Beckett's influence on him as a writer and director.

The programme also features a rare interview with Billie Whitelaw, long-time Beckett muse.

She shares her unique and intimate insight into the mind of the playwright and his work, reminiscing on her 25 years as his close artistic collaborator in conversation with actress Lisa Dwan.
