The winners are invited to a special winners day on 19 July where they can participate in composing workshops with other winners and highly commended entrants.

Master of the Queen's Music, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, will also attend the winner's day to share his wisdom with the future generation of composers.

The judges were immensely impressed by both the variety and quality of the entries.

All entrants to the competition are invited to INSPIRE - a Young Composers Forum on 11 August at which there are workshops, talks and the chance to hear the winning pieces. Up to 400 teenagers from around the country are expected to attend.

One of the world's most celebrated composers, John Adams, will attend and take questions about his work and the art of composing.

The day culminates with the evening Proms concert at the Royal Albert Hall, where John Adams conducts the 成人论坛 Symphony orchestra in a programme of his own works, featuring bass Eric Owens.

In addition to hearing professional performances of their work, the winners in the Junior Category will receive keyboards supplied by Casio, while the Senior Category winners receive Sibelius Software packages.

Competition entrants were asked to compose a piece of music in any style of no longer than five minutes duration with no restriction on instrumentation.

Copies of the scores of some of the winning compositions will be available to download from bbc.co.uk/proms, a service which aims to encourage young instrumentalists to perform music by their contemporaries.
