Britain takes on France in second serving of Great British Menu

"Compelling" - Sunday Times; "deadly competitive" - Daily Telegraph; "a must for all foodies" - The Express; "a glorious melange of egotism, envy and raspberry coulis - it really can't fail to be a hit" - The Independent

Earlier this year Great British Menu quickly established a reputation for providing an addictive insight into the highly-competitive world of fine dining.

Top chefs from across the country battled it out to create food fit for the Queen, and to be voted by the public onto the menu for her 80th birthday celebrations.

Now a second series of Great British Menu on 成人论坛 Two sets out to test ancient rivalries between Britain and France.

The series aims to see whether the best of British can achieve a culinary entente cordiale in Paris, the heart of the nation traditionally associated with world supremacy in haute cuisine.

The British Ambassador, Sir Peter Westmacott, and his wife, Susie, will host an exclusive dinner at the climax of next year's second season in the grandeur and splendour of the British Ambassador's Residence in Paris.

Britain's leading chefs will have the opportunity to dazzle some of the most respected and opinionated members of the French food elite.

The Ambassador's guests will also include some famous and outspoken advocates of British food: a spectacular guest list summoned from both sides of the Channel to sample the very best of British food on 2007's ultimate foodie menu.

In the new series each of last year's regional winners - Bryn Williams, Nick Nairn, Marcus Wareing, Richard Corrigan, Michael Caines, Galton Blackiston and Atul Kochhar - will return to face a new challenger to their culinary thrones.

Every week two chefs go head-to-head across five consecutive days, trying to secure their dishes a place on the Great British Menu.

Sourcing the best ingredients from their local area, each chef creates a four-course feast which they feel best expresses what their region has to offer.

A panel of food experts judges each menu, with viewers getting to vote in the eighth and final week of the series.

Nicola Moody, Executive Producers, says: "This year's winning Great British Menu chefs fed the elite of the British establishment - the Queen, the Prime Minister and the Archbishop of Canterbury.

"Next year the challenge is even harder. Our country's finest chefs are going to serve the best British haute cuisine to the French. The fight is on..."

Jay Hunt, Controller, 成人论坛 Daytime: "Great British Menu was a real highlight of the 2006 schedule.

"I am delighted Britain's best chefs will be battling it out again, this time to demonstrate how impressive the nation's modern cuisine is to the French."

The first series (shown on weekdays at 6.30pm) averaged a daily audience of 2.1 million (12.8% share) with a peak of 2.6 million (14.8%), with a narrative repeat each Saturday at 11.30am achieving an average of 1.3 million (22.4%).

The series culminated in a peak-time finale with an audience of nearly three million watching the special hour-long documentary featuring the Queen's birthday banquet at Mansion House.

Great British Menu, produced by Optomen Television, returns to 成人论坛 Two for an eight-week season in 2007.

Notes to Editors

A book to accompany the series will be published by Dorling Kindersley.
