Shortlist for Radio 3's Listeners Award - part of Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards


Listeners to 成人论坛 Radio 3 can again vote for a musician of their choice to receive an award as part of the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards.

This is the fifth year that the station has collaborated with the society, giving classical music audiences the opportunity to recognise an artist whose performances have proved particularly outstanding.

The shortlist of nominees is now available on the station's website - bbc.co.uk/radio3 - and votes can be placed online up to the closing date of 18 March 2007.

The winner will be announced at this year's RPS Music Awards ceremony on Tuesday 8 May.

The Royal Philharmonic Society is one of the world's oldest music societies.

The annual RPS Music Awards celebrate achievements in the field of live classical music.

Awards, in 13 categories, are decided by independent panels consisting of some of the music industry's most distinguished practitioners.

The awards honour musicians, composers, writers, broadcasters and inspirational arts organisations from the UK and abroad, and this year's celebrations mark their achievements during 2006.

Joyce Di Donato

Martin Fr枚st

Bernard Haitink

Paul Lewis

Mark Padmore

and Miah Persson.

Roger Wright, Controller of Radio 3, said: "The RPS awards continue to reflect an immense breadth and brilliance of music-making.

"This year's shortlist for the 成人论坛 Radio 3's Listeners Award presents eight nominees who have each enjoyed a particularly thrilling year.

"Classical music audiences are renowned for their enthusiasm and diversity of opinion and we invite all listeners to register their vote and select this year's winner."

The Radio 3 Listeners Award was first created in 2002, and previous winners have included Angela Hewitt, Sir Thomas Allen, Sir Charles Mackerras and Marin Alsop.
