Radio 1 refreshes In New DJs We Trust roster

³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio 1 last night announced that it will refresh the line-up of its dance music show In New DJs We Trust.

Ìý

New signing Kissy Sell Out will join the In New DJs We Trust weekly rotational roster alongside cutting-edge DJs Kutski, Professor Green and Mistress De Funk.

Ìý

The refreshed schedule will be another in a series of six monthly evolutions of the In New DJs We Trust show.

Ìý

The changes have been designed to ensure Radio 1 is championing the most important new dance music genres whilst also giving new and emerging talent their first chance to broadcast on national radio.

Ìý

The new In New DJs We Trust line-up will be broadcast as follows (in order of rotation) from Friday night/Saturday morning 21 July 2007 from 2 4am:

Ìý

  • Kissy Sell Out – Electro Rock 'n' Rave
  • Mistress De Funk – Minimal Techno/Tech
  • Kutski – Hard Dance/Hardcore
  • Professor Green – Hip Hop/Grime

Ìý

Kissy Sell Out will succeed rising dubstep star Plastician who will stand-in for Mary Anne Hobbs' Experimental Show in July as part of his ongoing relationship with Radio 1.

Ìý

Ben Cooper, Radio 1's Head of Programmes, said: "I am delighted to welcome Kissy Sell Out to In New DJs We Trust. He has emerged from London's cutting edge club scene and has exceptional talent and energy plus a very distinctive sound that will appeal to an important cross-section of our specialist audience.

Ìý

"In New DJs We Trust is an ever-evolving show whose mission is to ensure Radio 1 stays at the forefront of new music. I'd like to thank Plastician who will continue a relationship with Radio 1."

Ìý

Kissy Sell Out said: "I am tremendously honoured to have been taken on by Radio 1. The MP3 generation has changed everything and it's fantastic to see the station I grew up with staying as relevant as ever.

Ìý

"Everyday I hear new music which has the power to change dancefloors forever, and now I have the opportunity to showcase such exciting new talent. I can't wait to get stuck in and mash it up big time!"

Notes to Editors

Ìý

In New DJs We Trust broadcasts Friday nights/Saturday mornings, 2-4am.

Ìý

In New DJs We Trust is an evolution of The Residency, a Saturday night dance music show that launched in May 2005 with six DJs: Eddie Halliwell, Nic Fanciulli, Jon O'Bir, Trophy Twins, Kutski and Crissy Criss broadcasting on a six weekly rotation.

Ìý

The Residency line-up evolved in December 2005 seeing Plastician and Tayo succeed Nic Fanciulli and Jon O'Bir.

Ìý

In September 2006, as part of broadscale changes to Radio 1's specialist schedule, two of The Residency DJs gained their own shows: Eddie Halliwell on Thursday nights (midnight-2am) and Radio 1's Aftershow With The Trophy Twins on Saturday and Sunday mornings (4-7am).

Ìý

In addition, The Residency format was succeeded by a new show In New DJs We Trust on Friday nights/Saturday mornings (2-4am) with four DJs Kutski, Crissy Criss, Tayo and Plastician on weekly rotation.

Ìý

The first evolution of In New DJs We Trust came in January 2007 with the signing of Professor Green and Mistress de Funk who succeeded Tayo and Crissy Criss who now has a show on 1Xtra. The next re-shuffle will be January 2008.

Ìý

Kissy Sell Out, aged 22 from East London, emerged from the MySpace generation of cool nerds and sonic visionaries and is one of the hottest up-and-coming club DJs, producers and remixers around.

Ìý

Since graduating from Central Saint Martin's in Graphic Design, Kissy Sell Out has already become an underground sensation.

Ìý

Influences range from Sonic Youth, Scritti Politti and Swans to Aphrodite and Mickey Finn's late Nineties drum 'n' bass, dance producers such as DFA, Headman and early Daft Punk.

Ìý

He has played electric guitar since the age of 11 and began DJing at the age of 13 after turning from a Nirvana fan to a dance music fan overnight after hearing an acid house mix CD.

Ìý

Kissy soon started taking remixing and producing more seriously. Following a short stint in a mainstream electro pop band, Kissy decided to go solo and explore new musical territories.

Ìý

"When I made my first honest piece of music under the Kissy Sell Out guise, which I felt proud of, I suddenly realised that I had quite literally sold out in previous productions to try and appeal to a wider audience while repressing my urge to make something so much dirtier, and so Kissy Sell Out was born!"

Ìý

Many late nights working saw his graphic design project/imprint San City High, Kissy Sell Out music and design projects moving from strength to strength.

Ìý

Like-minded artists from around the world signed up to San City High with Kissy being the sole driving force running the whole operation from his bedroom.

Ìý

Kissy's future projects will see him teaming up with Sinden and Dave "Switch" Taylor's underground label Counterfeet for a special one-off EP and the release of Kissy's underground smash – Her – in July on Lavolta Records with remixes from DJ Touché, Trey Crasseux and Metal On Metal.

Ìý

Another fresh Kissy track already hotly tipped is Harriet which was specially re-edited with guest vocals from Bolt Action Five for Annie Mac's Mixmag CD in April.

Ìý

Kissy has also just delivered remixes for Calvin Harris and Mark Ronson. Kissy's debut album will be released in early 2008.
