Ben Wilson appointed ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Deputy Head of Press


The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ has appointed Ben Wilson to the new role of Deputy Head of Press in the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Press Office.

Ìý

Reporting to Donald Steel, Head of Press, Ben will be a senior spokesman for the Corporation, working across the full range of the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳'s corporate and other communications activities.

Ìý

Currently Head of News at the Department for Communities and Local Government, Ben will take up his post later in the Spring.

Ìý

He succeeds Sarah Williams, who left at the end of last year to take up a senior role in ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Worldwide.

Announcing the appointment, Donald Steel, Head of Press, ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳, said: "I am delighted to have someone of Ben's calibre join the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Press Office team.

"He has wide experience and an outstanding track record, and will bring much to one of the busiest press offices in the country."

Ben Wilson said: "I am delighted to be joining the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ – a broadcaster valued by the British public and a leader in innovation both at home and abroad. These are exciting and challenging times for the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ and I look forward to playing a part in its future."

Ben trained as a reporter and was named Southern Newspapers Young Journalist of the Year in 1998, before joining Brighton & Hove Council as a Press Officer later that year.

He joined the Cabinet Office in 1999 as a Senior Press Officer and moved to the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister in a similar role two years later.

Ìý

From 2001 to 2005, he was a Senior Press Officer at Number 10.

Ìý

This was followed by an appointment as Deputy Head of News at the Department for Education and Skills between 2005 and 2006, during which time he was also seconded to the British & Irish Lions team as a media consultant working to Sir Clive Woodward on the 2005 Lions tour of New Zealand.

Ìý

He was appointed to his present role in the Department for Communities and Local Government in August 2006.

Ìý

Ben was named Young Communicator of the Year in the 1999 PR Week Awards.
