³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio 5 Live brings all the thrills and spills from one of the highlights of
the jump racing calendar, the Cheltenham Festival, live from the course from 11 to 14 March 2008.
Ìý
The four days of action culminate in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, and
the tense showdown promised between last year's winner Kauto Star
and his stablemate Denman has ignited the interest of racing and
sports fans across the UK.
Ìý
John Inverdale presents daily coverage which includes commentary of
all the big races plus all the news, gossip and atmosphere for this
exciting event.
Ìý
Former champion jockey Peter Scudamore and comedian
Kevin Day join the 5 Live team of Clare Balding, Cornelius Lysaght,
John Hunt and Luke Harvey.
Ìý
Throughout the week, Clare Balding will be out and about around the
course offering her expert view, and Kevin Day will be on hand
to bring the lowdown from behind the scenes.
Ìý
He will talk to the
punters and be sent to some unexpected locations – in previous
years, he has reported from a helicopter and interviewed jockeys in
the sauna.
Ìý
On Thursday 13 March, the programme features a special live
broadcast in the Centaur Building at Cheltenham Racecourse, in
front of thousands of racegoers.
Ìý
The audience will get a chance to
ask the experts questions from 1.00-1.45pm. John Inverdale,
Clare Balding, Cornelius Lysaght and Peter Scudamore will all be on
hand to answer the punters.
Ìý
The network's racing correspondent, Cornelius Lysaght, has followed the
narrative of the season's racing leading up to this event, and he
will be talking to the jockeys, trainers and punters each day to
bring all the latest stories and information, right down to the
start of the Gold Cup.
Ìý
On commentary duty are John Hunt and Luke
Harvey, plus Peter Scudamore will provide expert punditry.
Ìý
Cornelius Lysaght says: "The Cheltenham Festival is followed avidly
by a huge amount of racing fans and sports fans.
Ìý
"It is one of the
most anticipated racing events in the world and 5 Live brings all
that atmosphere and the full story of the four days, building up
the tension and excitement.
Ìý
"I am particularly looking forward to an
intriguing Champion Hurdle on day one, and of course the most
eagerly anticipated Gold Cup that I can remember, with the showdown
between Kauto Star and Denman."
Ìý
In addition, on Monday 10 March, 5 Live Sport will broadcast live
from Cheltenham Football Club to mark the start of the Festival.
Ìý
A
special edition of The Monday Night Club features football guests
