Southern Counties Radio signs Paul Ross for new Saturday morning show

³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Southern Counties Radio (SCR) launches its new spring weekend line-up on 5 April with a big dose of showbiz as two new presenters join the station.

Ìý

Television presenter and radio personality Paul Ross (Saturdays 9.00am-noon) will be bringing his own brand of fun and amusement to Saturday mornings across Sussex and Surrey. And listeners will certainly be in for a treat as he goes head-to-head with his brother Jonathan's ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio 2 show.

Ìý

Plus parents and carers from across the region will also be familiar with SCR's other new boy, Sid Sloane (Saturdays noon-2.00pm). The actor and presenter is a regular favourite on CBeebies and taking on the Saturday lunch-time show will mark his first foray into radio.

Ìý

Talking about his new show, Paul said: "Having lived in Surrey and West Sussex for ten years I know a bit about what I am in for with the SCR audience and I am really looking forward to it. I started out in radio and I think it is a fantastic way of entertaining people.

Ìý

"If there's serious issues, of course we will deal with them but I am very keen to help people put the week to bed with a comedy twist. We'll be doing features like Weekly Weird News and Keep Taking The Tabloids as well as raiding my celebrity contacts book. Plus we also want to give people an idea of what to do with their weekends, and get them involved in the show.

Ìý

"I started my radio career doing a Sunday morning show and I really enjoy doing this kind of slot. You can have everything you have in a weekday breakfast show just a bit later and people have a bit more time to listen. And the great thing is that for the last two hours of the show I'll be up against my brother. I am not nervous, but I think he's a bit worried!"

Ìý

Paul's new show will be taking over SCR from 9.00am-noon every Saturday and then hot on his heels, filling the noon-2.00pm slot is new voice Sid Sloane.

Ìý

As this is Sid's first radio job he admits to a few nerves but the Brighton resident is very keen to make an impact with SCR's current audience as well as attracting new listeners.

Ìý

Sid said: "I am very excited and very nervous. It is a great opportunity. I know I can talk – we've just got to hope it's about things people find interesting.

Ìý

"I am ultimately an actor who fell into television presenting. But radio is different again. It creates a one-to-one relationship with the listener plus I find the live element of radio very exciting.

Ìý

"I know doing this show will be a challenge but I am up for it! It is going to be packed full of interesting stuff; a bit like the Sunday paper supplements. There'll be music, entertainment, and of course sport, despite me being a Liverpool fan. Plus I want lots of interaction with our listeners, I want hear what makes them tick."

Ìý

And Paul and Sid aren't the only new voices on ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ SCR. The station is also pleased to welcome Dr Gavin Ashenden as he introduces a new faith programme for Sunday mornings 6.00am-8.00am and Suzanne Bamborough will be the voice behind a new Saturday breakfast show for Sussex.

Ìý

Managing Editor for ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Southern Counties Radio Nicci Holliday said: "It's a really exciting time for Southern Counties Radio with a new weekend schedule and three new names to our line-up.

Ìý

"The minute we met with Paul and Sid, we knew they were perfect for the station, great big personalities, brilliant storytellers with warmth and authenticity. Both are rooted in the Southern Counties and know the patch almost better than we do!

Ìý

"We've also been looking for an opportunity to work with Dr Gavin Ashenden for some time and are delighted that he's now on board and will make Sunday breakfast a compelling listen. Weekends are going to be unmissable!"

Ìý

Paul Ross, Sid Sloane and Gavin Ashenden are available for interview and pictures are also available.
