³ÉÈËÂÛ̳'s Eric Smith debates future of Shropshire's primary schools

³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio Shropshire's Eric Smith is to host a live on-air debate on the future of primary school education in Shropshire.

Ìý

Eric, presenter of the breakfast show on Radio Shropshire, will open the discussion at the Music Hall in Shropshire at 7.00pm prompt on Wednesday 9 April 2008.

Ìý

It's a subject close to Eric's heart: "As a parent and former school governor myself, I know how big an issue this is for many people – on both sides of the debate. It'll be fascinating to see if we can really get some answers about the way forward for Shropshire's schools."

Ìý

The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ decided to organise the debate in light of Shropshire County Council's decision, which is currently under consultation, to merge 16 primary schools.

Ìý

The panel consists of the leader of Shropshire County Council, Cllr Malcolm Pate; Cllr Peter Phillips; Liz Nicholson, Corporate Director for Children and Young People's Services at Shropshire County Council; John Hitchings, Chair of Shropshire School Governors' Council; and Rev Mark Turner.

Ìý

Listeners are invited to attend the debate at the Music Hall or email/text in their comments during the broadcast.

Ìý

For free tickets please email rose.aston@bbc.co.uk or phone Radio Shropshire on 01743 248 484.

Ìý

The debate will be broadcast live on Wednesday 9 April at 7.00pm on ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio Shropshire on 96, 95, 90 and 104.1FM and on digital radio.
