Steve's Deadly 60 – a deadly global adventure
Anne Gilchrist, Controller, C³ÉÈËÂÛ̳, has announced the commission of
Steve's Deadly 60, the channel's most ambitious presenter-led
natural history series to date, from the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳'s multi award-winning, globally-renowned Natural History Unit (NHU).
Ìý
Steve Backshall (The Really Wild Show, Expedition Borneo,
Springwatch Tracker) is back...
Ìý
In his most daring adventure, he's
travelling to six continents to find the deadly 60.
Ìý
From lethal
beauties to killer beasts, from the unseen to the unexpected, 60
unique creatures from the four corners of the globe all have one
thing in common... they are all deadly!
Ìý
This ground-breaking series will see Steve delve in to the
habitats of scorpions, hunting dogs, stingrays, tiger snakes, red
back spiders, kookaburras, sloth bears and giant centipedes, on
an adventure of a lifetime that will take him to South Africa,
Australia, Malaysia, India, Europe and North and South America.
Ìý
Steve's Deadly 60 represents an opportunity to encourage a new
young audience to ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ wildlife programmes.
Ìý
Anne Gilchrist said: "Steve's Deadly 60 is gripping television
with Steve Backshall getting extremely close to the world's most
dangerous creatures.
Ìý
"It will give children a close up view of
some fascinating creatures in their natural environment.
Ìý
"It's
fast paced, informative with a real sense of personal challenge
and adventure."
Ìý
Steve Backshall said: "I feel very passionate about wildlife and
Steve's Deadly 60 gives me the chance to bring this wonderful
world of animals to life for children.
Ìý
"In the series we learn
that we have nothing to fear from the majority of animals
featured but, in their world, even the smallest and most bizarre
creature can be deadly.
Ìý
"It's hard to pick a favourite moment so
far but seeing a sea eagle pluck a fish out of the water right in
front of me, getting chased by a rowdy hippo and having a cobra
spit venom into my mouth are things that will stay with me
forever."
Ìý
Executive Producer for the NHU, Wendy Darke, said: "Steve's
Deadly 60 combines the best of the natural history and children's
expertise to give the C³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ audience a real-life, around-the-world adventure and close encounters with 60 of the most deadly
animals on the planet.
Ìý
"Filmed in a way that makes the viewer feel
a part of Steve's gang, this is true warts-and-all television,
right down to an encounter with a great white shark with a very
excited Steve and a cameraman who was seasick throughout the
whole piece."
Ìý
This 20 x 30-minute series will transmit in spring 2009 and is Executive
Produced by Reem Nouss, Head of News, Factual and Learning for
C³ÉÈËÂÛ̳.
