Gillian foxtrots out of Strictly Come Dancing

It was a battle of the dance floor divas as Gillian Taylforth was voted off ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ One's Strictly Come Dancing – the first female celebrity to leave the competition.

Ìý

After performing a foxtrot, the combination of the viewer votes and judges' scores left Gillian and her partner Anton du Beke in the bottom two with Jodie Kidd and Ian Waite.

Ìý

Both couples had to perform a second time for the judges' deciding vote.

Ìý

Of Gillian and Anton's dance the judges said –

Ìý

Arlene Phillips: "Gillian, when you started we saw lots of the fox but gradually as it went on we saw less and less of the trot and at one point almost pushing and trying to lead Anton. It's a romantic dance – melt in his arms and it will all happen for you." Score: 5.

Ìý

Bruno Tonioli: "Gillian, compared to his previous partners you're Ginger Rogers and that is something. The intro was great but I know what happened – butterflies in the stomach. You tightened up and by doing so your frame went. You were hanging onto him for dear life." Score: 6.

Ìý

Craig Revel Horwood: "I though it was a little rough around the edges. There was a bit of gapping going on but that's easily solved. When you did your heel turn it looked like it was on the whole foot rather than lifting the toes up but not a complete disaster." Score: 4.

Ìý

Len Goodman: "Well some people look for the bad in everything. I always look for the good and I've got to say I loved the start. You had great musicality. I watched your footwork and I thought that was beautiful. I loved the whole routine and the performance. Tighten up your diaphragm and lift your ribcage." Score: 7.

Ìý

The judges gave them a total of 22 out of 40 for their performance.

Ìý

After the dance-off, Jodie and Ian were saved by Craig, Arlene and Bruno who all voted for them to stay in the competition, leaving head judge Len to comment on the couples rather than vote.

Ìý

Len said: "I was disappointed that two foxtrots were in the bottom two, it's such a difficult dance and doesn't have the wow factor of the salsa. But I just want to say that Gillian and Anton were stood on the steps clapping along and cheering for Jodie and Ian; it was great spirit."

Ìý

After Gillian and Anton's elimination, Gillian said: "I have really enjoyed myself, it's been great. Anton's wonderful."

Ìý

On Saturday the boys performed a group meringue to She Bangs ahead of their second solo performances next week.

Ìý

When asked who stood out and caught their eye, the judges said –

Ìý

Arlene: "I am going for my Austin because I thought he was a ballroom boy but he pushed that girl around and, let me tell you, that isn't easy! He was leading her."

Ìý

Bruno: "I think I have to go for John."

Ìý

Craig: "Tom stood out for me; the hip action was absolutely filthy! Also his timing was very good except when you went into that grapevine step."

Ìý

Len: "I thought they all did a pretty good job. Mark sometimes looks a bit awkward. but the atmosphere was electric."

Ìý

The Sunday results show saw Sugababes' Keisha, Amelle and Heidi perform their new single Girls.

Ìý

Next week the boys will compete to stay in the competition whilst the girls perform a group number.
