Current Head of the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳'s Multi Media Newsroom Peter Horrocks has been appointed as Director of ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ World Service, it was announced today.
As Director of ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ World Service, Peter Horrocks will be responsible for the overall editorial leadership and management of the world's leading international multimedia broadcaster. He will take up the post in mid-April.
³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ World Service delivers programmes and services in 32 languages on television, radio and new media to a global audience of at least 182 million every week.
Richard Sambrook, Director of ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Global News, said: "I am delighted that Peter is the new Director of ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ World Service. Peter Horrocks has been Head of the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳'s Multi Media Newsroom since September 2005. He had previously been the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳'s Head of Current Affairs.
Since joining the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ in October 1981 as a news trainee, he has been the Editor of both Newsnight and Panorama – the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳'s domestic flagship television current affairs programmes.
He has been responsible for ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ TV's election night results programme in 1992 and 1997, as well the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳'s coverage of the Budget, by-elections and local elections.
Peter won BAFTA awards in 1997 and 2005 for his editorship of Newsnight and for the documentary series The Power Of Nightmares respectively.
