³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ appoints David Bond as Sports Editor

David Bond

The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ has appointed David Bond as its new Sports Editor to succeed Mihir Bose.

David, currently the Sports Editor at the Daily Telegraph, will take on his new role in the New Year.

As the senior on-air specialist for the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳'s sports news journalism, David will provide analysis and context to the major sports news stories and events – such as the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 Olympic Games – across the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳'s news and sports services on TV, radio and online.

David has a strong track record of breaking and analysing major sports stories. He was responsible for running a successful team of sports writers and journalists at the Daily Telegraph and producing their daily sports supplement and websites. He has overseen the paper's coverage of the Beijing Olympics and masterminded the paper's handling of rugby union's "Bloodgate cover-up" story.

David was previously the Chief Sports Reporter at The Daily Telegraph, where he focused on the London 2012 Olympics, England football, the business of sport, politics and doping issues. He also covered the football World Cup in 2006.

Prior to this David was the Deputy Sports Editor at The Evening Standard and Sports News Correspondent at The Sunday Times.

He replaces Mihir Bose who left the corporation in August.

Speaking of his appointment, David said: "This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity which I simply couldn't turn down and I am extremely honoured to have been given the chance by the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳. This is arguably the greatest job in sports journalism and the platform it offers, especially with the London Olympics in 2012, is unparalleled."

Barbara Slater, Director of ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Sport, said: "We are thrilled David is joining the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳, bringing with him a formidable track record in sports journalism. As our Sports Editor he will be the on-air figurehead of ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Sport's News operation. In a highly competitive field he impressed with both his editorial judgement and passion for the role."

Mark Byford, ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Deputy Director-General and Head of ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Journalism, added: "I am delighted David is coming on board. We are determined to develop the prominence and impact of high quality sports journalism across our news programmes and services and the Sports Editor is a pivotal role in that quest. David Bond's flair, insight, energy and expertise made him the outstanding candidate."
