³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ investigation exposing discrimination against migrant workers in Lincolnshire wins major award

³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Look North correspondent Guy Lynn, 37, was last night, (Tuesday 1 June), presented with a prestigious Amnesty International UK Media award for his investigation which was broadcast on the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ One 6.30pm programme in August 2009.

The judges said: "The report received unprecedented national exposure, making waves from Poland to China. This was outstanding, shocking and emblematic of a deeper malaise in UK society."

For this piece, Lynn went undercover, posing as a landlord to expose discrimination against migrant workers in the housing markets.

A make-up artist created a disguise for Lynn during secret filming in a house that was specially put up for rent. The piece was featured on ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio 4's Today programme, ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ World Service, ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Breakfast, ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ News channel, most ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ radio outlets and the main ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ 6 O' Clock news.

Leading human rights lawyers were "horrified" by the evidence.

Lynn, who has twice won the regional RTS Reporter of the Year Award, said it was a "huge honour" to receive the Amnesty award.

The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳'s Head of Region for East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, David Jennings, said: "We are delighted at the recognition given by the judges to Guy Lynn's investigation.

"Guy's tenacity and vigour in uncovering discrimination against migrant workers had an impact felt well beyond this region. It was journalism that really did make a difference."

Output editor Mark Hayman and VT editor David Linford-Smith were also named on the award.
