The group formed by drum 'n' bass star Goldie, for ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Two's forthcoming programme Goldie's Band – By Royal Appointment, performed last night in front of guests including Prince Harry at a special concert at Buckingham Palace, recorded for the series.
The 12 musicians, chosen from across the county, played a set of their own compositions for an invited audience in the Palace Ballroom after intense training at two residencies at which they wrote and rehearsed their own works.
During their time in residence they were mentored by a team of industry experts including composer Guy Chambers, jazz artist Soweto Kinch and singer-songwriter Cerys Matthews.
Speaking at the concert, Goldie commented: "It's been awesome watching the growth and development of these talented young musicians who have grabbed this opportunity to flourish.
"Seeing them perform on stage at Buckingham Palace has made me so proud and it's been brilliant mentoring them over the last few months".
Speaking to the band after the concert, Prince Harry said: "The power and variety of your music was simply incredible. Watching you perform together as a band was just inspiring.
"You're all so talented, I know you have come such a long way as a group and you should be very proud of yourselves and each other. I'm looking forward to downloading your music".
Extracts from the concert will be broadcast as part of the series in January 2011.
