England fast bowler Stuart Broad is to join the Test Match Special commentary team as a summariser for the third Test in Perth, which starts on Thursday, it was announced today.
The pace bowler who finished Australia's innings off with the wicket of Brad Haddin in the second Test at Adelaide, helping England to a one nil lead in the Ashes series, will make his TMS debut for the Third Test in Perth.
Broad, was ruled out of the rest of the Ashes series with a stomach muscle strain last week, indicated that he would like to be part of the Test Match Special team in a recent Daily Mail interview saying: "I am a cricket fan and I want to support the team. I want to be there if we retain the Ashes at Perth. In fact, I'd love to be a summariser on Test Match Special, if they'd have me."
Shortly after Broad had made clear his ambition to join Test Match Special he was contacted and arrangements were put in place for him to join Jonathan Agnew, Geoffrey Boycott, Michael Vaughan and Christopher Martin Jenkins in the hallowed TMS broadcasting studio.
Radio 5 Live Controller, Adrian Van Klaveren, said of the appointment: "It will be special to have someone with inside knowledge of the current England camp and who played such a pivotal role in the first two Tests on the TMS team."
