³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ expands London Apprentice Scheme industry-wide

Building on the successful launch last year, the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ 2012 – London Apprenticeship Scheme will this year have new partners – ITV, Talkback Thames, Tiger Aspect, Endemol and Maverick supported by PACT and Skillset, making it an industry-wide scheme. For the first time the apprentices will train together and undertake placements across the industry, gaining commercial as well as public broadcasting experience.

The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ 2012 – London Apprenticeship Scheme set out to help create a more socially inclusive workforce with the aim of bringing new and diverse thinking to the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳. While apprentices have learnt they have also contributed ideas that have helped programme-makers with insights of young audiences.

The current apprentices are on track to gain a Creative and Digital Media Apprenticeship Level 3 qualification. This has been delivered by Westminster Kingsway College and the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Academy together with informal development through placements in ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ programme-making departments.

The ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ 2012 – London Apprenticeship Scheme is currently being advertised at .

Two case studies:

Reace Danily

"I'm an apprentice with ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Sport. So far I have worked on Sports Personality of the Year, on the Olympics team and in Sport Interactive and Radio Sport. Whilst on the Olympics, my job role was to research stories about athletes that will be taking part, working closely with the editor and assistant producers to deliver the best content possible.

"The work in Interactive included editing and uploading stories onto the website, ingesting tapes and talkback between the production team and the play-out centre at Red Bee to make sure everything runs smoothly.

"I'm now at 5 Live. There's a midday meeting where we discuss the latest news and begin to build the programme for the evening slots. I research potential stories, create sound montages and think of interesting stories with a twist for Football Express.

"My next stops will be the Football League Office, the London Boat Race and lastly, Sports News.

"Besides my brilliant year, so far and to be, I cannot forget the training delivered by the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ and Westminster Kingsway College. The other apprentices and myself are studying a course called Advanced Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital Media which consists of producing our own films, editing them and a world of other interesting things."

Chenoa Finlayson-Pugh

"I've worked on three shows in Entertainment so far while I've been on this apprenticeship. The great thing is they are all really varied so I've had a chance to learn about the media from loads of different angles. I've worked on The Impressions Show which is a sketch show filmed on location, The Hairy Bikers' Family Cook-off which was a studio-based programme and Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two which was a live studio show.

"College is really fun – they've given us a great project to do this year and everyone there is lovely which is a bonus!

"Everyone here seems to want to help in some way and get the best out of you which is really encouraging and welcoming and I'm so glad to have been given the opportunity to work at the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳!"
