³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio 1Xtra DJ MistaJam has announced that from Saturday 26 February, his weekly ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra simulcast show (11pm-1am) will take the bold move of becoming a dedicated showcase for everything new in the world of dubstep and bass.
The significant change comes as a logical progression for the DJ continuing on from his early support through his 1Xtra show, launched in 2007.
The show's new music policy will see MistaJam seek out the freshest beats, biggest baselines and hottest artists from one of the most exciting genres to emerge from the UK in the last few years. MistaJam is also looking forward to the opportunity to champion new talent, providing a platform for the next generation alongside the current big name players.
MistaJam says: "At the moment the dubstep and bass music scene is the most exciting, vibrant and innovative music scene to have emerged from the UK for at least a generation. I've seen the scene develop and lines between what used to be separate genres being blurred into what we now call bass music. This will provide me with an opportunity to introduce more people to the sound that is captivating the current generation of clubbers."
MistaJam's enthusiasm for pushing the scene forward is also reflected in his "Daily Dose of Dubstep", an uninterrupted mix recently extended from 30 minutes to one hour. As part of MistaJam's multi-genre 1Xtra evening show (Mondays to Thursdays, 7-10pm) this mix at 9pm gives a platform to various underground names with a rotational line-up that currently includes: Starkey, The Others, Circus Records, Mensah, True Tiger, Quest and MistaJam himself.
Mistajam introduced the Daily Dose of Dubstep mix in 2007 to simply showcase the underground genre he had become passionate about after first hearing the seminal track Night by pioneers Benga & Coki.
MistaJam adds: "At the time, bar Mary Anne Hobbs' Radio 1 groundbreaking show, dubstep was being largely ignored by national radio. Seeing acts such as Magnetic Man (and members Skream and Benga), Katy B, Rusko, Chase and Status and Nero all achieving massive mainstream success, all artists I've supported before the mainstream were paying attention, the time feels right to take the next step and up the ante."
MistaJam's simulcast show is part of a 12-hour schedule every Saturday night where Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra come together. The night starts with Trevor Nelson at 7pm, followed by Westwood from 9pm, then MistaJam at 11pm before The 1Xtra Showcase kicks off at 1am, highlighting the different genres that 1Xtra covers including hip-hop, UKG and dancehall.
Radio 1Xtra is available on DAB digital radio, TV and online.
