Radio 2 presents Elbow's homecoming gig at Manchester Cathedral

On Thursday 27 October (8-10pm), Bury band Elbow will perform tracks from their Mercury Prize nominated album, Build A Rocket Boys!, in the beautiful surroundings of Manchester Cathedral, for a homecoming gig exclusive to Radio 2's weekly In Concert programme.

Further to their appearance on the album, the Halle Youth Choir will accompany the band in performing songs from their award-winning back catalogue in front of an audience of Radio 2 listeners.

Jeff Smith, Head of Music at Radio 2 and 6 Music, says: "I'm delighted to continue our homecoming series with Elbow. They are a magnificent live band and I can't wait to hear how the cathedral setting lends itself to their stirring and anthemic music."

Presented by Jo Whiley live on Radio 2, the gig will also be available for fans to watch live from 9pm via the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Red Button and the . And listeners can tune into ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio 6 Music, home of Guy Garvey’s Finest Hour show, from 10.00pm to hear the gig encore.

In support is local indie folk band, the Slow Show. The band has been chosen by ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Introducing, which champions unsigned, undiscovered and under-the-radar musicians, giving the best new artists broadcast opportunities across the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳.

Previous Radio 2 In Concert homecoming gigs have seen Paolo Nutini return to his hometown of Paisley, Scotland – and taken Manic Street Preachers back to Blackwood in South Wales.
