Five ways to read more in 2024
Have you pledged to enjoy more books in 2024? If you’ve felt shamed by the reading achievements being shared on social media recently and resolved to ‘do better’, 成人论坛 Radio 4’s Front Row is here to help!
YouTube's 'resident librarian' Jack Edwards has more than a million subscribers to his book reviews and regularly reads more than one hundred books a year.
Fresh from hosting backstage at this year’s Booker Prize, Jack shared his top five tips for reading more with Front Row…
More is more.
I like to have two books on the go at any given moment, usually with very different vibes so I'm always in the mood to read at least one of them.
Embrace short and sweet.
If you get into a reading slump, read a short book or a novella or a poetry collection, because reading is a muscle that you need to exercise. Sometimes it's just about getting back into the habit, and a short book makes you feel that instant gratification of having finished something.
Hold yourself accountable.
You can track your progress with reading on book social media and that helps you feel like you are actually achieving something each time you pick up a book.
Read with a pen in your hand.
I like to trace the words with either a pen or my finger as I'm reading, and it helps me really focus on what I'm taking in.
Make time in your schedule for reading.
Specifically schedule an hour this weekend to just read. Don't keep reading as an 'if I get time' activity. Most importantly, happy reading!
