This week's show reflects Radio 2's Bee Gees Bank Holiday, with tracks from the Bee Gees' four best selling albums in the USA - Saturday Night Fever, Spirits Having Flown, Bee Gees Greatest and the Staying Alive soundtrack LP.
In the regular feature A Matter Of Life And Death, Paul marks the forthcoming birthday on 1st September of Barry Gibb by playing his Top Ten duet with Barbra Streisand - What Kind Of Fool. The Bee Gees' US Number One on this date in 1971 - How Can You Mend A Broken Heart - will also be heard. And the weekly feature, It's Not The Same Old Song, features Words by the Bee Gees and the similarly titled hit by the Monkees.
Paul also highlights two big American hit singles for the group that were not successful in the UK - I Started A Joke and Nights On Broadway - and finds a topical reason for playing (The Lights Went Out In) Massachusetts at the beginning of the programme.
