Second of two programmes that see farmer Jimmy Doherty ask what really goes into supermarket food. Originally appearing on 成人论坛1, this special one-hour version has been re-cut especially for use in schools.
Setting up his own food factory in a barn, Jimmy not only looks at how our food is put together but also at some of the tricks which are used in food production. Visits to real-life food factories add to the mix, revealing some tantalising trade secrets.
Episode two of 'Second helpings' sees Jimmy turn his hand to making his own marshmallows, noodles, puffed rice, concentrated apple juice and even chewing gum! Visits to chocolate, peanut and yoghurt factories expose some exciting science and an outing to a cucumber farm sees Jimmy find out how farmers grow straight cucumbers.
Suitable for learners of all ages, this compilation of short films can be used to reveal the science behind our food and is ideal for encouraging discussion and debate.
