Are blasphemy laws right for today?

Do blasphemy laws belong in the 21st century? Whether you're religious or not, religion -and God- are a matter for debate aren't they? Should the law have a place in that debate?

A second government minister in Pakistan has been assassinated for speaking out against his country's blasphemy laws.

It was only three years ago that we scrapped our own blasphemy laws in Britain, and even though the law's been changed, there are plenty of people in this country too who still regard blasphemy as a crime. Whether you're religious or not, religion - and God - are a matter for debate aren't they? Should the law have a place in that debate?
