Cash Money Records has just witnessed one of its most successful 12 months to date, thanks largely to the development of Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment imprint and key artists such as Nicki Minaj and Drake.

Cash Money's attitude towards creative freedom and empowerment to its artists is defined by Young Money Entertainment, which Lil Wayne has used to build his own artistic and business ideas under the wider vision of the parent label.

The Story of Cash Money looks back at the label created in New Orleans by brothers Bryan 'Birdman' Williams and Ronald 'Slim' Williams, how they survived the departure of their defining major artists, and how one artist who stuck with them - Lil Wayne - has gone on to be at the forefront of the labels success.

We chart how Young Money Entertainment was founded, its role within the Cash Money label, and how Lil Wayne became the president of both; plus we'll uncover what's next with planned expansion through music, books, clothing and film. The programme also examines how the label and artists have embraced mixtape culture and musical collaboration in order to spread the word of their music.

Cash Money enjoyed early success with Birdman's own career, and collaborations with producer Mannie Fresh as the Big Tymers, plus through the Hot Boys which brought together key artists BG, Juvenile, Turk and Lil Wayne. Mannie, BG, and Juvenile left the label and the relationship between Birdman and Lil Wayne became key to the latter's development as an artist and businessman, and to where the story is today with artist such as Nicki Minaj, Drake and Jay Sean.
