Andy Crane with news from around the world. The US House of Representatives votes in favour of a package of measures which will ensure the US pulls back from the edge of the so-called 'fiscal cliff.' President Barack Obama gives his reaction - saying the House vote to prevent a mix of tax increases and spending cuts avoids a problem that could have sent the economy back into recession.

Legendary cricket writer and commentator Tony Cozier from Barbados pays tribute his Test Match Special colleague Christopher Martin-Jenkins who has died from cancer. Tony recalls various stories about his eccentric friend including the time he turned up at a test match complaining that he couldn't work his new mobile telephone. It turned out that he'd been trying to call people on his hotel TV remote control!

And Mohammed Diaby is in Abidjan in Ivory Coast, Africa where he has been helping the families of people who died in a New Year's Eve stampede. 60 people - mostly children under the age of 15 - died and up to 200 were injured. Three days of mourning have been declared following the incident which happened as people left a fireworks display.
