Almost since See Hear started airing 33 years ago, cochlear implants have been a controversial topic in the deaf community. For some they are a miracle cure that unlocks full hearing, while for others they are a symbol of oppression and control. Yet perhaps cochlear implants have given rise to a new form of deaf identity. What could that deaf identity be? Clive Mason looks back over the archive with Dr Paddy Ladd.
