The All-China Women鈥檚 Federation estimates that domestic abuse takes place in nearly a quarter of Chinese families; but only very recently has this issue been brought to light in international media. The Guardian鈥檚 China Correspondent Tania Branigan joins Jane to discuss the issue. We also discuss China鈥檚 one-child policy, in place since 1980.

Labour Peer and crime writer Ruth Rendell passed away on Saturday at the age of 85. She was last on Woman's Hour in August 2014 to talk to Jenni about the 50th anniversary of her most famous character Inspector Wexford.聽Xinran
China鈥檚 one-child policy is still in place and although there have been softer restrictions in recent years,聽 the policy has left a huge impact on the first generation of Chinese people forced to grow up without siblings. Chinese journalist and author Xinran joins Jane to talk about her new book which focuses on that impact.聽

Ella Woodward Cooks the Perfect..Sweet Potato Brownies
In 2011 Ella Woodward was diagnosed with a rare medical condition, which meant that she couldn鈥檛 walk down the street, slept for 16 hours a day and was in pain most of the time.聽 When conventional medicine failed to help her, she decided to completely overhaul her diet, giving up gluten, dairy, sugar, meat and all processed food overnight, and after 聽eighteen months, her聽symptoms started to disappear. She started experimenting with recipes and blogging about her new approach to food. 聽Her blog Deliciously Ella now receives around 6 million hits a month. She joins Jane to talk about her philosophy for healthy eating and she makes her sugar and gluten free
