Mary Anne Hobbs is joined by composer Nico Muhly, who has been commissioned to compose new music for the landmark revival of Caryl Churchill's The Skriker as part of Manchester International Festival.

As this year's festival draws to a close, Mary Anne is joined by this diverse and challenging composer ... who is also probably one of the busiest men in music

Nico has written operas, orchestra pieces, film scores, and composed choral music for Tallis Scholars and the Hilliard Ensemble. His work has been commissioned by St Pauls Cathedral and Carniege Hall; he's composed for Ballet, arranged music for The National and Grizzly Bear, worked alongside his mentor Philip Glass and was the man Bjork turned to when she wanted her reimagining of 'Oceania' to feel like a fantasy of Richard Clayderman and Liberace on stage.

His most recent work has been to create an original score for Caryl Churchill's The Skriker, an extraordinary tale of a broken and fractured England where ancient fairy stories and the contemporary world collide as two teenage mothers are lured into a devastating musical underworld by a shapeshifting spirit.
