Marine Protected Areas
Dougie is on Arran where he meets Andrew Binnie, the Executive Director of the Community of Arran Seabed Trust which successfully campaigned over 13 years for the establishment of a small No Take Zone in Lamlash Bay in 2008. Now the whole of South Arran has been declared a Marine Protected Area and there are plans to ban dredging and most trawling in the area. Some fishermen claim this will have a devastating impact on their business.
Farmers’ Markets
Sarah spends the day working at Edinburgh Farmers’ Market with Rachel Hammond – an artisan Charcuterie producer from the Borders. She discovers that these Markets are often the only sales opportunity for small independent producers.
Wildcats
Euan is on Speyside to meet the children in listed in a project to help count the number of wildcats in the country. White Deer
Dougie heads into the hills of Arran with Forest ranger, Robert Logan, as they go in search of an extremely rare white deer. Its unusual appearance was caused by leucism, a rare genetic pattern that causes a reduction in the pigment in the animal's hair and skin. Unlike albinos who characteristically have red eyes, deer with leucism have normal colouring in their eyes. Will Dougie and Robert manage to catch a glimpse of this extremely rare Deer?
