New Orleans trumpeter Christian Scott unveils his latest project, Stretch Music, recorded at the EFG London Jazz Festival back in November.
In Scott's own words, Stretch Music is an attempt to "stretch jazz's rhythmic, melodic and harmonic conventions to encompass as many musical forms/languages/cultures as we can". In this high energy gig he achieved just that, bending it into shapes as bold as his trademark customised trumpets; referencing hip hop, blues, rock and electronic dance music; and showcasing a precocious young band, featuring rising-star flautist Elena Pinderhughes.
