Nicky Marr invites local chef Kat round to give her a lesson in the art of gravy-making, plus she hears how cauliflower is making a comeback.
Nicky Marr presents the Kitchen Cafe this week.
For years she's been tortured by gravy. Mainly the lack of it. She has appealed to friends and family for help, but the fact remains there just isn't enough sediment to work with, to produce that gorgeous tasting gravy that should accompany Yorkshire puddings for the perfect Sunday lunch. This week, Nicky invites local chef Kat round to her house, half an hour before her guests arrive, to once and for all master the art of gravy making.
Once upon a time, the Sunday lunch might have been one of the few places you'd see Cauliflower on the plate - unfortunately very often over cooked. Well times are a-changing and now we're seeing it in soups, stir fried in Indian spices or crisped in coconut oil. Nicky hears how cauliflower is making a massive comeback and comes face to face in studio with this queen of brassicas, done in a very unusual form....
And if you're looking to spice up your cauliflower or any other food in the kitchen, why not try seaweed... Whether it's as powder for seasoning or part of a potato cake, this super-food is fast becoming more and more popular with chefs around the country, utilising the mounds of it found around our coastlines. Karen MacKenzie, not a fan of the algae, heads over to North Berwick with forager Monica Wilde, ready to be convinced otherwise.
