Experimental musician Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith talks to Mary Anne about trusting the subconscious when it comes to composing new songs, and how she feeds her mind with specific tunes, images and experiences to help her to create new sounds.

Kaitlyn grew up in isolation on an island of Washington State, and over the past few years has released a number of intriguing, nature-inspired records using a Buchla Music Easel. Her latest album, EARS, drops on April 1, ahead of a tour supporting Animal Collective across America.
