Call You and Yours: What's your solution to the housing crisis been?

Consumer phone-in. New research suggests that home ownership is falling. What creative solutions are being used to beat the crisis?

New research suggests that home ownership is falling, and it's not just a London problem any more. Figures are falling for Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester and South Yorkshire. At the same time, the number of properties available to buy is falling and DIY sales are up. So what are you doing to cope with this housing shortage?

Has your family decided to mix several generations to make sure everybody has somewhere to live? Or have you done something more radical like the five Oxford professionals who've decided to become a housing co-operative so they can buy a home.

Property expert Kirstie Allsopp is going to be on hand to offer advice. She thinks the system for buying and selling houses is just too complicated. Have you found that? Maybe you've got an approved mortgage that then fell down when it came to the sale?

Maybe you own your home but can't afford to move to accommodate a growing family. Is that you? DIY sales are at the highest they've been since the downturn. Are you improving your home because you can't move? How has that worked out for you? How much improvement is it ever sensible to do - have you created a dream house that's way above the value of other houses on your street?

Or are you an older person who would love to downsize but just can't find the right property. Do you resent being expected to downsize in this way? A report from the International Longevity Centre report suggested the 500,000 increase in the numbers of middle-aged single people occupying multiple bedroom houses was keeping younger people from getting on the housing ladder. Is that fair?
