Mike Ingham looks back on the infamous kung-fu kick on a fan by Eric Cantona in 1995.

In the 56th minute of a Premier League match at Selhurst Park Cantona kicked his marker Richard Shaw and was sent off.

Palace fan Matthew Simmons ran down 11 rows to abuse Cantona as he walked back to the dressing rooms. What followed caused a sensation across the sporting world.

Cantona was sentenced to two weeks in prison which was reduced on 31 March to 120 hours community service for the attack.

During a news conference Eric Cantona cryptically referred to the British press as "a flock of seagulls following the trawler".
