Will the new women-only W Series encourage females into top level racing or just segregate them?

When David Coulthard and his team announced a new racing series just for women last year it split opinion. Some were aghast that such a series should exist condemning it as 'segregation' at its worst. Others welcomed the move in an aim to address the imbalance in the sport which hasn't seen a female compete at the top level for well over 25 years.
