Bluebells, Bennachie and Bluefin Tuna

Join Mark Stephen and Euan McIlwraith for the latest outdoor activities from Shetland to the Borders, plus the key stories for those who live and work in the countryside.

Euan finds out about a new survey being launched by Scotland鈥檚 Rural College, Scottish Gamekeepers Association and the British Association for Shooting and Conservation that aims to find out more about the aspirations and working conditions of gamekeepers, ghillies and stalkers, and the roles they play in rural communities across the country.

Mark takes a walk round Forestry and Land Scotland鈥檚 Bennachie site and finds out about how they manage the woodland for recreation and how they plan for the future.

As lots of us think more carefully about the food we eat and where it comes from, Mark speaks to Professor Pete Smith, Chair in Plant and Soil Science at the University of Aberdeen, about what sustainability really means when it comes to food.

Euan finds out about bluebells and all their different varieties and the way they self-seed.

Earlier this month a large Bluefin tuna was washed up on Scotstown beach in St Fergus, Aberdeenshire. Mark visits the Marine Scotland lab in Aberdeen to find all about the fish usually found in further reaches of the Atlantic.

Podberry is an innovative snack developed by Bruce Farms at Meigle. Euan goes to try out the tasty treat made from peas.

As we gear up to the opening of the River Dee for salmon fishing Euan hears about plans for the celebrations to mark the event.

And ahead of the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch, Mark heads to Seaton Park in Aberdeen to brush up on his birdwatching skills and see what he can spot.
