Preparing for Lent
As Lent approaches Sean Fletcher visits Pershore Abbey for prayers, palms and pancakes, and we hear how churches are helping communities in the devastating floods.
Sean Fletcher visits Pershore Abbey in Worcestershire to find out how the community is preparing for Lent. Sean assists the rev Claire Lording as she burns last year’s palm crosses ready for the Ash Wednesday service. He hears how members from the local churches go onto the streets offering to pray for passers-by at the Ash Wednesday service. It’s part of a Church of England initiative called ‘Pray One For Me’ and the Bishop of Worcester explains how he came up with the idea. Ahead of Shrove Tuesday, Sean joins the Brownies in the Abbey’s community centre where they are holding a pancake party for friends and family, and following the devastating floods we hear from churches in Hereford and Wales who are helping their communities to cope.
