Episode 4
Jools welcomes British legend Joan Armatrading, Sunderland art rockers Field Music and LA-based group Gabriels to the show.
Jools chats to British legend Joan Armatrading. Her 50-year career includes classic songs like Drop the Pilot and Love and Affection, and her new studio album Consequences - her 22nd - is one of her most intimate and direct yet. As top picker this week, Joan shares her favourite performances from the Later… archive, including Tinie Tempah, The Ting Tings and Skepta, plus a couple more surprises.
Also returning to the show are Sunderland’s art rockers Field Music, who perform a number from their recently released eighth studio album Flat White Moon, filmed at the Empire Theatre in their hometown. The band, fronted by brothers Peter and David Brewis, treats us to a rendition of the track No Pressure, the video for which highlights the prolific songwriters’ witty sense of humour as they take the audience on a ‘How to’ tutorial for making a Field Music hit.
And making their debut on the show this week are LA-based group Gabriels, made up of singer Jacob Lusk and producers Ari Balouzian and Ryan Hope. Filmed in Los Angeles, they perform the title track from their debut EP Love and Hate in a Different Time, which gives a perfect taster of their genre-defying sound that displays influences of gospel music pulled together by the distinctive voice of Jacob, who has performed supporting vocals for the likes of Diana Ross and Beck.
