Jay Blades and the team bring four treasured family heirlooms, and the memories they hold, back to life.

Vintage musical instrument expert Pete Woods takes on a tarnished, dented saxophone that once lifted people’s spirits during the Blitz. It belonged to Lorna Douglas’s father, a passionate musician, but it hasn’t made a sound in over 40 years. Pete enlists the help of horologist Steve Fletcher to craft new brass parts to replace the missing ones, and before he returns it to Lorna, Pete recruits the barn’s secret saxophone player to put the restored instrument to the test.

Silversmith Brenton West’s mettle is truly tested when he encounters an 80-year-old brass kettle that’s in desperate need of some professional attention. Phil Bayly from Lincolnshire owns this keepsake, and it holds precious memories of his mother and her many stories of the Bayly family. She treasured the kettle and would polish it to perfection, but after years in a box, followed by an unfortunate accident, the kettle is crushed and dull. Through determined effort and with the help of a bespoke ‘dedenting’ tool crafted by Dom, Brenton works his midas touch.

Master saddler Suzie Fletcher restores a leather shaving mirror used by troops in the trenches of the First World War. Ruth Bowdage hopes Suzie can rescue this precious item that was handmade by her great grandfather, cleverly stitched together from old horse harnesses, while serving on the Western Front. Unsurprisingly, the mirror has had a hard life - it is dirty and scarred, and the glass is cracked and foggy. To save the mirror, Suzie must unpick each and every stitch, before cleaning and nourishing the leather, then reassembling it again following in the stitch marks that were first made in the trenches over 100 years ago.

Finally, Dom and Jay sharpen up their acts with a vintage carpenter’s tool. Father and son John and Chris Dearlove from East Sussex have brought in an ageing fretsaw that was once the pride and joy of John’s father, Norman. A keen carpenter, Norman used the tool to make toys for the family’s children, and John is hoping Dom can restore the saw so he can use it with his own son Chris.
