Episode 2

Officers crack down on a company fitting cars with fake pollution filters, and Trading Standards confront a company who claimed their insulating paint would cut home energy bills.

Officers crack down on a company fitting vehicles with special devices that are supposed to reduce toxic fumes and improve air quality. The devices cost thousands of pounds and are fitted to exhausts on high-polluting vehicles. They are supposed to eliminate up to 90 per cent of pollutants, but in this case the devices were fake and completely worthless. The company director and salesman are among those about to face justice for their part in a fraud worth more than half a million pounds.

Meanwhile, trading standards officers are closing in on a cowboy company that claimed it could cut energy bills by treating houses with a special insulating paint. The work was expensive but ineffective, and more than 50 customers have complained.
