Music of the Harlem Renaissance

Composer Philip Herbert joins Jamie for an exploration of the Harlem Renaissance and its legacy, with music by Margaret Bonds, William Grant Still and Florence Price.

Tonight Jamie looks at the cultural explosion of the Harlem Renaissance and its rich legacy of classical music. Joining him is composer Philip Herbert to talk about the composers inspired by this period in history and we鈥檒l hear music from Florence Price, William Grant Still and Margaret Bonds amongst others. Also on the programme composer Matthew King and Tomas Leakey, founder of the Mahler Players, talk about using unfinished sketches by Wagner to create a brand new piece of music.
