Jamie is joined this week by the Welsh pianist Joe Webb for a Take 5 interview

Jamie’s guest is the pianist Joe Webb, who joins him for a Take 5 interview.

Growing up in the Welsh town of Neath, Joe was surrounded by a musical family and got hooked on the work of piano greats like Oscar Peterson and Erroll Garner early on. He moved to London in 2013 and immersed himself in the jazz scene, quickly becoming an in-demand player. Part of the band Kansas Smitty’s, Joe also leads a pair of groups and plays with UK jazz heavyweights like Adrian Cox and Rob Luft.

Joe’s new album ‘Summer Chill’ is released this June – a collection of feel-good tracks which serve as the imagined soundtrack to a 1960s pool party.

Joe gives his memories of listening to beloved tracks over and over on his Walkman as a child, catching Barry Harris in concert and the masterful approach of Ahmad Jamal.
