Groove Merchants, Drummers & Songs of Leonard Cohen

Seonaid Aitken with a focus on drummers, songs of Leonard Cohen and tonight's Song Book features the jazz standard Groove Merchant.

Seonaid Aitken hosts a one stop shop for jazz including everything from the hip-hop flavours of Us3 to the sounds of the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra ahead of their tour this month. Plus with the news of a new film about Leonard Cohen just released we鈥檒l hear some of his songs given a jazz twist by singers Norah Jones and Madeleine Peyroux along with brand new music from Perth born saxophonist Helena Kay and a kaleidoscopic collaboration featuring electronics & rap from Danger Mouse , Black Thought and Michael Kiwanuka. We鈥檒l also hear music from some of the artists playing at this year鈥檚 Islay Jazz Festival alongside sounds from a selection of young drummers on the jazz scene today including Lorraine Baker, Graham Costello and Ari Hoenig. Plus we open another chapter of our Song Book with pianist Richard Michael, tonight looking at the jazz standard Groove Merchant including versions by James Morrison and the Thad Jones & Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra.
