The National Astronomy Meeting 2023

Adam Walton reflects on this year's National Astronomy Meeting in Cardiff.

Adam Walton reflects on this years National Astronomy Meeting in Cardiff, an annual event organised by the Royal Astronomical Society.

The meeting is one of the highlights of the scientific calendar, bringing together astronomers and space scientists keen to share their research. It's also the first time that the meeting has been held in Cardiff in almost 30 years!

We had the pleasure of attending this years event, catching up with the president of the Royal Astronomical Society, Professor Mike Edmunds, who introduces us to this years theme of 'origins'.

Dr Rowan Smith tells us how stars are formed in the galactic cradle, while Dr Hannah Wakeford explores the atmospheres of exoplanets.

Dr Andy Rivkin from Johns Hopkins University in Maryland describes NASA鈥檚 Double Asteroid Redirection Test.

We ponder dark matter with Professor Ofer Lahav.

Education, Outreach and Diversity Officer at the Royal Astronomical Society, Dr Sheila Kanani MBE, discusses steps to create a more inclusive STEM industry.

Plus Dr Helen Jermak shows us a telescope made from Lego.

Produced by Stuart Russell.
