Space engineer Dr Gisela Detrell has been working out how one million people could manage to make a home on Mars. Could designing a Martian city help us live better here on Earth?

As a palaeontologist Tori Herridge spends her life poking at things from the past, but she鈥檚 secretly obsessed with the future. In the second of three episodes exploring how future cities might work, she takes a leap from Earth to Mars. Space engineer Dr Gisela Detrell has a day job researching how to keep astronauts alive in space for longer, but she's also been working out how one million people could manage to make a home on Mars. Just how dangerous would it be? How could we eat, drink and have fun? And could designing a Martian city help us live better here on Earth?
