Scandinavian Glass

Episode 11 of 30

Nigel Havers presides as five sellers aim to get the best price for their items, including a 6ft statue, a chopping block, Scandinavian glassware, a sideboard and some colourful vases.

Nigel Havers welcomes sellers of collectibles and curiosities to the Bidding Room's new home in Edinburgh, where they ply their wares to five dealers.

First through the doors is eight-year-old Braxton with his granddad Graham – they've brought a friend in the form of 6ft golfing statue, 'Bob'. The statue has presided over Graham’s garden for many years, but the time has come for Bob to be rehomed. Can any of the dealers see themselves as his new guardian?

Next to arrive at Bidding Room HQ is Charlotte with a Scandinavian charity shop find. She’s hoping for a good return on the nominal price she paid for two pieces of designer glassware.

Finn is in next with more Scandinavian wares – a pastoral piece in the form of a chopping block. He bought it at auction on a whim, but it didn’t find favour at home. He’s hoping one of our dealers will be as taken with it as he was and make some big impulse bids.

Returning to the Bidding Room for a second time is Lee. He’s a keen restorer of sideboards, and the 8ft mid-century piece he’s got this time charms the dealers – but could any of them bid high enough to take it home... and can any of them even fit it in their van?

Finally, we welcome Tracey with an inherited collection of glass vases once belonging to her great-aunt. She wants to sell the collection and create a new inheritance for her own children with the proceeds. Expert auctioneer Simon informs her this is a great time to sell the highly coveted pieces – will the dealers be as taken with them?

The dealers today are Ian, Estelle, Moses, Lucy and JB.
