Women & Children First

work in some of the world’s most rural, remote communities to make pregnancy and childbirth safer.  They set up health groups, bringing women together to share knowledge and address their biggest health challenges.

Preventing Pregnancy Deaths

Preventing Pregnancy Deaths
Every 2 minutes a woman dies in pregnancy or childbirth from preventable problems. Women in rural Ethiopia often have to give birth without a midwife present. This can be dangerous. Community groups discuss how to make birth safer.

Meet Rabiya

Meet Rabiya
Rabiya went to her local health group, set up by the charity.  She learnt about what can go wrong during childbirth. This was vital when Rabiya’s labour took too long. She knew this could be fatal. She got help to go to hospital, several miles away.

…and her daughter Fedila

…and her daughter Fedila
At hospital, Rabiya got the medical care she needed and gave birth to Fedila. Fedila is starting school this year, while Rabiya still goes to the group to support other mums-to-be. Your donations can help set up more lifesaving, life-changing groups.
