Elizabeth Alker introduces an afternoon of great music making, including British Music from the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Symphony Orchestra and Martyn Brabbins at the Proms and chamber music from Scotland from this year’s Edinburgh International Festival.
Guitarist Raphael Feuillatre evokes the sound of Spain with music by Albeniz and Tarrega, and pianist Alexandre Kantorow plays Liszt’s musical impression of Switzerland. But to begin today’s selection from the Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh, violinist Carolin Widmann and pianist Dénes Várjon perform the second of Beethoven’s opus 30 violin sonatas, a tempestuous work written in his early thirties.
