Episode 2
Keepers are forced to hand-rear a pair of precious fennec fox babies, but will the round-the-clock care be enough to keep them alive? And Kate Humble experiences being hunted by a pack of wolves.
Over at the fennec fox enclosure, Zuri has just given birth to a litter of three kits. This should be a cause for celebration, but it’s put the keepers on high alert. Previously on Animal Park, we have witnessed Zuri struggle to look after her babies, and each time she has given birth, they have all died. As word spreads across the park, the decision is made by head of animal operations Darren that the keepers should intervene and attempt to hand-rear two of them. Highly experienced keepers Sam and Gemma are sent in to retrieve the babies who are just hours old. Without their mother the odds are stacked against them, but the keepers will do everything in their power to save the tiny bundles of fur. What begins is a punishing round-the-clock operation to feed the babies – can Sam and Gemma do enough to keep them alive?
Out in Wolf Wood, Kate Humble is about to get the ride of her life, when she joins carnivore keeper Kayleigh in the ‘feed wagon’. As they thunder up the road, we are reminded of the tragic tale of the dominant male and female wolves who died in 2022, leaving the remaining pack without a leader. In the months since, the pack hierarchy has consolidated, and it appears a young male called Spruce could have become ‘top dog’. The best way to know for sure is to feed the pack by making them chase the ‘feed wagon’, with our cameras trained on the action to observe the relationships between them all. It’s a high-octane chase as these relentless hunters follow Kate and Kayleigh, but what will be revealed about the residents of wolf wood? Has a new era begun?
