Record producer Joe Boyd shares stories from his travels and his new book And The Roots of Rhythm Remain. Plus whistler Molly Lewis calls in from End of The Road Festival!

Producer and record label boss Joe Boyd joins Cerys to discuss his new book And the Roots of Rhythm Remain: A Journey Through Global Music. Plus whistler Molly Lewis calls in from End of The Road Festival before taking to the stage for her performance.

Born in Boston Joe's record producing credits include Nick Drake, REM, John Martyn and Pink Floyd. Joe has travelled around the world immersing himself in music and witnessed the rise in popularity of music from Africa, India, Latin America, the Caribbean and Eastern Europe. In his ambitious book Joe shares the stories behind the sounds and his encounters with musicians and producers who have altered the course of music in the western world. Expect to hear about music from Havana, Lagos, Rio, New Orleans and Laurel Canyon.

Molly Lewis is a former winner of the Masters of Musical Whistling competition in Los Angeles. She's performed with Dr. Dre, Karen O and Jackson Browne. in 2021 she release her debut EP titled The Forgotten Edge, her follow up EP Mirage came the next year but it was at the start of 2024 that Molly released her debut album On The Lips. Last year for the Barbie movie, she collaborated with Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, whistling a version of Billie Eilish's What Was I Made For?
